Day One:
In the dynamic landscape of education, principles serve as the bedrock upon which effective teaching and learning practices are built. On July 1, 2024, Happy Beginners School of Learning Inc. embarked on a journey of professional growth and development as educators gathered for the first day of their In-Service Training (INSET) at Juana Highland Resort in Murcia, Negros Occidental. Facilitated by the esteemed Licensed Professional Teacher, Miss Kiara Marie Pigao, the day was a culmination of insightful discussions and engaging activities focused on reinforcing the fundamental principles that guide educators in managing student learning.
The day commenced with a series of interactive and enriching learning activities centered around personal ethics. As the moral compass that guides every teacher's actions and decisions, personal ethics play a pivotal role in shaping the learning environment and fostering positive relationships with students. Through thought-provoking discussions and practical examples shared by the speaker, educators of HBSLI were encouraged to reflect on their ethical responsibilities and reaffirm their commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in their practice.
Another key highlight of the day was the in-depth exploration of assessment practices, with a specific focus on the creation of a critical tool in testing - the Table of Specifications. This essential component of assessment design, often covered in undergraduate courses, provided educators with a valuable opportunity to revisit and enhance their understanding of assessment principles. Delving into the taxonomies of cognitive, affective, and psycho motor domains, teachers at HBSLI gained valuable insights into designing assessments that align with learning objectives and cater to diverse learning styles.
In the afternoon session, the training shifted its focus to the vital topic of values integration in education. Recognizing the importance of instilling moral and ethical values in students alongside academic knowledge and life skills, educators explored strategies for seamlessly integrating values education into the curriculum. By emphasizing the holistic development of students and nurturing their character alongside their abilities, teachers at HBSLI are poised to cultivate responsible and empathetic individuals who contribute positively to society.
As the day drew to a close, teachers were reminded of the significance of maintaining a well-managed classroom environment. By establishing clear expectations, fostering positive relationships, and implementing effective classroom management strategies, educators play a crucial role in creating a conducive learning environment where students can thrive.
