Exploring the Art of Yogurt Making: A Transformative Experience for Teachers


In a delightful and enriching encounter, Happy Beginners School of Learning Inc. were graced with the presence of Mr. Hans Kok, an esteemed expert in yogurt making from Holland, Netherlands, on July 11 and 12, 2024. This unique opportunity brought together Teacher Orlan Bandiola, Teacher Khent Orbigoso, Teacher Jenifer Santesteban, along with Teacher Kaye Lobrido, the head teacher, and the school president, Miss Anne Marie Makilan.


HBSLI experienced the intricate process of yogurt making under the guidance of Mr. Kok, starting with boiling milk, adding sugar, and pasteurizing the milk. Following this, they allowed the mixture to cool and add in culture powder. The yogurt-to-be was then left to ferment for 16 hours at a constant temperature of 40 degrees. Finally, flavors such as blueberry, strawberry, mango, and passion fruit were added, and the yogurt was transferred to smaller containers for serving, completing the meticulous and rewarding process.


The teachers gained valuable insights during the session, emphasizing the cornerstone of successful yogurt making which is temperature precision. They also learned about the importance of hygiene practices, including sterilizing materials and maintaining a clean environment to prevent contamination. Additionally, they understood the significance of time and patience in allowing the yogurt to ferment for the optimal duration to cultivate the desired flavors, highlighting the meticulous care and attention required in the art of yogurt making.


This transformative experience serves as a testament to the power of collaboration, learning, and the joy found in the art of creation. This has broaden HBSLI’s culinary horizons, enhance knowledge of food preparation, and introduce a new addition to the array of wholesome foods offered by the Pure Abilities Program.
